Capture an article or a highlighted passage, review the text, then read it in WordTempo. When several full articles are already loaded, choose the titles you want.

This test version is installed manually. It is not listed in the Chrome Web Store.

Updating an earlier test version?

Download and unzip this update, and keep the new folder in Documents. Open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode. Remove the old WordTempo extension, click Load unpacked, and select the new folder containing manifest.json. Confirm version 0.1.4, then refresh the article and WordTempo tabs.

Your saved Bookshelf stays available. This manual extension does not update automatically when the website is published.

Version 0.1.4 fixes repeat imports opening extra tabs. It brings your existing reader tab forward before delivering the article, including when Chrome has put that tab to sleep. A slow reply no longer opens another tab. Your previous unsaved article and reading place move to Recent articles. In the viewer, choose Start reading to begin at your current position.

Install it on your Mac

  1. Download and unzip the file. Move the WordTempo-Chrome folder somewhere permanent, such as Documents.
  2. In Chrome, type chrome://extensions into the address bar.
  3. Turn on Developer mode, then click Load unpacked.
  4. Select the WordTempo-Chrome folder containing manifest.json.
  5. Open Chrome’s puzzle-piece Extensions menu and pin WordTempo.

Try your first article

Open the article’s website and click the WT button. Choose Read this article. For a specific passage, highlight the text first and choose Read selected text.

Check the preview, then choose Read in WordTempo or Save & read. Your existing reader tab opens in front. A new tab is used only if no reader is open at your selected WordTempo address in the same normal or incognito browsing context. Refresh WordTempo once after installing the update, and finish your usual sign-in if prompted.

Keep using your usual WordTempo address.

The extension has an “Open in” choice for wordtempo.app and the original test site. Your saved Bookshelf belongs to the address where you saved it. A collection of articles uses one of your three Bookshelf slots.

Keep or discard recent articles

Below the Bookshelf, Recent articles remembers up to 10 previous unsaved article imports and their reading places on this device. Choose Read to return, Keep to use a Bookshelf slot, or Delete to discard one. Older recent items are replaced as you read more; saved Bookshelf items are not replaced. A group of imported articles counts as one item. Clearing browser data also clears local reading history.

What this version captures

It captures readable text already loaded on the page, with a preview so you can check the result. Sidebars, menus, videos, and common advertising elements are filtered. Unusual layouts can still need selection capture or manual cleanup. Links to other stories need to be opened before their text can be captured.

Your text stays on this device

The extension reads the page you choose after you click WT. It transfers the text locally to WordTempo. It does not send article text to an AI service. Pending imports clear after delivery and expire after 15 minutes; restarting Chrome clears them too.

If an import does not arrive

Finish signing in, refresh WordTempo, and confirm the extension is enabled. If you have restarted Chrome or waited more than 15 minutes, capture the article again. After an extension update, reload it at chrome://extensions and refresh both tabs.
